Aero-News (Covid-19) – Selon un chercheur de l’université de Massachusetts, vous avez deux fois moins de risque d’attraper le Covid-19 dans un avion à moitié rempli que dans un appareil plein.
Est-il utile de laisser le siège du milieu vide pendant l’épidémie de Covid-19 ? Lors de la reprise du trafic aérien, le taux de remplissage des avions avait fait débat. D’un côté, la nécessité de respecter le mètre de distance de sécurité entre les passagers pour éviter la propagation du coronavirus. De l’autre, les compagnies aériennes dans l’incapacité économique de faire voler des avions à moitié vides. Si Easyjet avait accepté la mesure, sa concurrente Ryanair s’était opposée à la reprise de l’activité dans ces conditions. «Nous ne pouvons pas gagner d’argent avec un taux de remplissage de 66%», avait fait savoir son patron Michael O’Leary.
Pourtant, cette mesure permettrait de diviser presque par deux le risque d’attraper le Covid-19 pendant un vol. Le chercheur Arnold Barnett de la Sloan School of Management (Cambridge, Massachusetts) a mené une étude depuis le mois de juin intitulée : «Les risques du Covid-19 sur les passagers des avions : le siège du milieu devrait-il rester vide ?». Selon lui, durant un vol de deux heures, un passager a un chance sur 4 300 d’attraper le virus. La probabilité tombe à une chance sur 7 700 si le siège du milieu est vide. L’étude précise que «Le risque de mortalité (du Covid-19 dans un avion, ndlr) est considérablement plus élevé que celui lié au crash d’un avion mais comparable au risque de mortalité pendant deux heures d’occupations quotidiennes durant la pandémie.» En somme, il n’est pas plus dangereux d’être cloîtré dans une cabine d’avion avec d’autres passagers pendant deux heures que de faire ses courses, prendre les transports en commun ou être présent sur son lieu de travail.
Les vols ont donc repris avec, en théorie, toutes les places disponibles. Si Ryanair annonçait il y a quelques jours que ses vols étaient remplis en moyenne à 72%, aucune règle n’interdit le remplissage total de l’appareil. Le masque est obligatoire à bord.
