Aero-News (British Airways) – Le nouveau confinement en Grande-Bretagne, lié à la recrudescence de la pandémie de Covid-19, a poussé la compagnie aérienne British Airways à reporter à janvier prochain au plus tôt la relance de sa route entre Londres et Sydney via Singapour, suspendue depuis le printemps.
Les quatre semaines de confinement débutées jeudi dernier outre-manche ont contraint la compagnie nationale britannique à supprimer quelques 50 routes de son programme de vols d’ici le début décembre 2020, y compris celle reliant sa base de Londres-Heathrow à l’aéroport de Singapour-Changi. Et selon Executive Traveller, la prolongation vers Sydney-Kingsford Smith – la fameuse route des Kangourous – ne reviendra pas avant janvier 2021 au plus tôt. British Airways avait pourtant rouvert les réservations à partir du mois prochain, mais le confinement (qui interdit de partir sauf pour raisons professionnelles) et l’obligation de quarantaine payante en Australie ont eu raison de cet optimisme.
Dans l’autre sens, on rappellera que Qantas, sa partenaire dans l’alliance Oneworld, a reporté sine die son retour à l’intercontinental, peut-être même jusqu’à la fin 2021.
Mark Muren, directeur des ventes mondiales de British Airways, a déclaré au site spécialisé à propos des conséquences du nouveau confinement : « À la lumière de cette annonce, nous avons pris la décision de mettre en œuvre un certain nombre d’annulations sur l’ensemble de notre réseau » ; les informations pour novembre sont à jour ici. Et il a rappelé les mesures commerciales mises en place par la compagnie aérienne « pour garantir une flexibilité maximale à nos clients. Si un vol est annulé, les clients auront droit à un remboursement conformément à nos directives clients standard. Notre politique » Réservez en toute confiance « continue d’offrir la possibilité de modifier le vol, la date ou la destination, ou de demander un avoir pour un prochain voyage », a-t-il conclu.
Selon l’IATA, plus de 100.000 Australiens sont bloqués à l’étranger et cherchent à rentrer chez eux, dont 30.000 à Londres. Beaucoup auraient du mal à obtenir des vols retour en raison du nombre limité de passagers pouvant voler vers l’Australie, ce qui réduit les disponibilités – et augmente les prix.
