Aero-News (développement d’un carburant d’aviation durable) – Airbus a rejoint un consortium canadien engagé dans le développement d’un carburant d’aviation durable et qui espère en produire d’ici à la fin de l’année.
L’avionneur européen a signé avec SAF+, un regroupement basé à Montréal entre entreprises et instituts de recherche au sein du secteur aérien, un protocole d’accord pour «le développement et la production de carburants durables pour l’aviation en Amérique du Nord», a-t-il indiqué jeudi dans un communiqué. La contribution d’Airbus s’effectuera via «une expertise technique et de certification, les analyses économiques, la communication et l’argumentation» en faveur de ce carburant.
L’objectif de SAF+ est de transformer Montréal en une plaque tournante de l’aviation durable en Amérique du Nord grâce à la construction et à l’exploitation subséquente d’une usine pilote de production de carburant d’origine non fossile (en englais Sustainable Aviation Fuels, SAF). Située près de Montréal, cette usine pilote produira un type de SAF connu sous le nom de Power-to-Liquid (PtL), qui est un carburant alternatif composé de dioxyde de carbone (CO2) synthétisé avec de l’hydrogène renouvelable.
